Landscaping History: The American Elm Tree

Friday August 15, 2003
Homeowners sometimes select a tree for their landscape design plan because of its beautiful flowering quality, or perhaps due to its evergreen quality. The American elm merits selection on neither count, yet is one of the most exquisite trees ever known to landscaping. The sight of its arching canopy gracing the downtowns of North America used to be taken for granted. The history of the American elm is related in this article.

Any American elm tree is an historical treasure in its own right. But did you know that you can own the direct descendents of particular elms and other trees associated with famous historical events? As an example, see the Chief Logan American Elm page.
