My introduction to Japanese bonsai tree care covers some of the basics, such as how to prune bonsai trees and how to repot them. I also delve into the history of bonsai briefly. Learn about this ancient Oriental art here.

Hello David,

i just bought a bonsai tree from IKEA last two week,after a long time of contemplating whether id be a good caregiver for such a beautiful thing or not.Well i had hoped that id learn as i went along on how to care for the tree,since its my first time at this and im not a learned man on ‘tree care’.
I really require your help in some areas since i am having trouble with my tree;
First how do i find out what kind it is…the store didnt tell me and i have noway else of knowing.Should i send u a picture of it?
Second its started to shed its leaves alot.I live in a city located in a desert area.There is hardly any humidity in these areas,iv kept it indoors and its near a large window which gives it plenty of sunlight.I water it 2 times a week.Thats all.
Please do tell me how i can take proper care of my tree…i dont want to lose it!
Id be most obliged …waiting in anticipation for your reply and much awaited help!!

Thanks!
ADAM

Hi Adam,

While not an expert on bonsai, specifically, I’ll be glad to have a look at a photo. You can post your photo in my Landscaping Forum. Click the “Post new message” link; once that page comes up, use Browse/Upload buttons to select a photo from your computer to upload. As for care, lack of humidity could, indeed, be a problem. You might want to experiment with using a humidifier. Good luck.
