Top 10 Landscape Shrubs for Winter Landscapes

The value of needle-bearing landscape shrubs such as yews for providing visual interest in winter landscapes is well known. But don't overlook deciduous landscape shrubs. This list, with descriptions, of mostly landscape shrubs (birch trees and ornamental grasses receive mention, too) will offer ideas for sprucing up winter landscapes. February is a good time to think about this. You're aware of the visual interest (or lack thereof) in your current winter landscape, yet spring is close enough that you can get excited about planting new landscape shrubs -- specimens that will cheer you up on a winter's day next year at this time.
