Lamb's Ear Plants
Saturday October 29, 2005
Lamb's ear plants are an excellent choice for areas of your landscape design drenched in sun, but with well-drained soil. These perennials are known for two prominent features: their silvery color and the velvety feel of their leaves. Note the latter especially. For while newbies to landscape design may overlook it, we veteran plant lovers pay attention to how plants feel to the touch. And why not? A certain earthiness defines us. You can almost judge people's commitment to plants based on how many of their senses are satisfied by the plants in their yards. Enjoying the sight and smell of flowers is a no-brainer, as is the taste of the harvest from the vegetable garden. But how many people fully appreciate the rustling sound made when the wind strikes the oak leaves just right in autumn? And how many buy a plant for its strokeability? Lamb's ear plants are eminently strokeable. In fact, if velvet were a plant, it would have to be a lamb's ear plant.
