From Oak Galls to Wood Burls

picture of wood burlIf you suffered from acne as a child, you may perhaps feel a twinge of pity for any living thing you see with a bump on it -- even a plant. Wood burls (see picture at left) and leaf galls are 2 such "plant pimples," although they're basically harmless. Of the latter, you're perhaps more likely to encounter oak galls than any other while out for a stroll in the woods.
