Landscape Lighting for Beginners

Wednesday August 16, 2006
Landscape lighting can literally shine the spotlight on your landscape design. In fact, some aspects of your landscaping take on a special beauty at night, if properly illuminated. Landscape lighting also improves nighttime safety and security, lighting up walkways and deterring burglars. The resources on this DIY Web site will enlighten you about the basics of landscape lighting.

Places that have been landscaped are always attractive. But more importantly some of these landscapes become more beautiful due to the lighting effects added to them. Some of the most fascinating lighting effects I’ve seen use shadows during the daytime or reflections on pools. Others show off their lighting designs during the night painting the entire lanscape with colors and hues that will surely captivate visitors.

I have three peaks on my home about 40 feet high. All the wiring is in place from the construction of the house to the peaks. I need fixtures type? to be installed. Called a company $200.00 for the fixtue and $125.00 for the bulb. $700.00 for labor. Are they nuts? What type of fixture do I need? My husband can install them with my Dad who is an electrician help. What type of fixture do I need? thanks Kathleen

Landscape lighting is an art. Professionals work at it for years before they are considered a “professional.” Kathleen posted about her husband and dad installing landscape lighting. This is not something that is done by a DIY. Hire a local lighting professional. It may cost more but you will not regret it. You get what you pay for.

i do agree it’s better left to professionals but landscape lighting is something that can be done by a Do it Yourselfer if he/she is careful and do the proper research before hand.

Les sounds like a landscaper scraping for business.

Do it yourself, girl. It is not rocket science and unless you have a mansion, you will be fine if you do the research upfront. What you save in labor you can use in higher quality materials and other improvements.
