Do you ever wonder why sometimes the common names of plants catch on, while, other times, scientific plant names rule the day? Coreopsis is a scientific plant name, the common equivalent for which is "tickseed." But let's face it: ticks aren't exactly cuddly creatures, so "tickseed" as a name had one strike against it, immediately. Add to that the more recent concerns about Lyme disease, which is spread by deer ticks, and it's easy to see why Coreopsis won out.
