A Thumbs-Down for Black and Decker's Rechargeable Garden Sprayer

Monday January 8, 2007
These pump-free garden sprayers have a rechargeable 14.4-volt battery. The garden sprayers hold a charge for up to 10 tanks' worth of spraying. It's nice being able to spray without worrying about pumping. That's the good news. The bad news, however, is two-fold. And I'm afraid the bad news about these garden sprayers outweighs the good.

I have not experienced the leaking as you described. In fact, I would recommend this sprayer to everyone. It is easy to use and works great.

I have two of the sprayers and have been using them for about 1.5 years. Both are still going strong and work very well, better than the Ryobi model (which I also own). The only problems I’ve had is the filter end piece came off on both as the tubing is only pressed on. I solved this by adding a small screw-type hose clamp (with stainless steel band) to the filter end and have had no further problems. I want to purchase a 3rd unit, but cannot find them locally (Raleigh, NC). Looking to purchase one on the internet, and that is how I came across this blog.

I have used this garden sprayer for a yea, never had problem with it leaking. My problem was that the wand broke off at the connection and the button cover wore out. I have seached to get another and was told at Black & Decker thay no longer make this sprayer. That is to bad i really prefered this sprayer over others I tried. Anyone know where I can get replacement wand?

The wand on my sprayer broke off due to electrolysis between the aluminum and bug spray I purchased at my local hardware store. I diluted it and it did not spray well. It operates well with thinner liquids. I currently was using diluted orange oil when the wand seperated mid-tube. Maybe electrolysis, maybe not, but, it was not in a high torque area. The charger is easy to use. It sprays well. Difficult to spray all liquid from container, always some left over. I like the way the tank comes away from the motor.
I bought mine on sale.
Here’s address for replacement parts.
Handling is a bit pricey but buy lots, it goes down, not away, just down.

I just placed order today for 2 wands.
Hope this helps.
This B & D unit does not make me want to walk away from an electric sprayer, it makes me want a better one!

Follow up, I ordered the wand several times and received the incorrect parts, twice. I did not follow up but simply took the loss and moved on. My sprayer is still broken.

This sprayer is a piece of junk-that’s probably why they stopped making it. It has very little power, you have to be about six inches from the target if you need to spray anything. The battery does not keep a charge and the do not sell a replacement -you have to purchase the whole power head which costs as much as a new sprayer. I would not advise buying this sprayer.

I have two of the Black and Decker sprayers and absolutely love them. I am only sorry they stopped making them as the old manual pump sprayers are a real pain to use.

Well, well, well I too have been “taken” by Black & Decker. I have had one of these Garden Sprayers for about 2 1/2 years, while I have been reasonably satisfied, mine also leaked around the spray head. The in-tank pick up filter also dropped off into the tank very early om. Then it began leaking where the aluminum wand connects to the power switch housing, which finally broke apart.

No matter the cause of the breakage, it is a shame that replacement can only be accomplished by purchasing an entirely new power head @ nearly $90.00 plus S&H. And, if I understand the pricing OK, that does not include an aluminum wand that I would need, nor the pick up attachment neither.

What I desperately need to make my garden sprayer work again is absolutely not available as a replacement part. But, I was very pleased with the pressure and the very sufficient charge.

Anyone out there not happy with your sprayer? Maybe I could salvage parts off yours to fix my own.

Black and Decker must have brainless morons working at their call center because i tell them what I need and they send the wrong part. Very Very expensive time consuming and annoying
