Ipe lumber is a Brazilian hardwood known to be highly rot-resistant, making it ideal for decking. "Treated Southern yellow pine will last to about 10 years," notes Steve Nix; ipe lumber, by contrast, "will survive outdoor deterioration for 30 years."
