Enjoying a Silent Spring
Sunday March 23, 2008
No, not that kind of "Silent Spring," as in Rachel Carson's
1962 environmentalist classic. There would be little to enjoy about a spring deprived of chirping birds and spring peepers. I'm talking about a different type of "silent spring." We celebrated the the vernal equinox (spring equinox) last week, so now's a good time to reflect on what spring means to our lives.

Nice post, but one thing I missed and expected was some mention of using non-power equipment to maintain your garden and lawn. That’s actually what I expected to read about and was a bit disappointed to not read that.
I love spring, but the one thing I find very annoying is the noise pollution on Saturdays and Sundays as everyone fires up their gas lawnmowers, gas trimmers and gas leaf blowers. I use none of the above and spend no more time maintaining my lawn and surrounding property as my neighbours do.
You are not going to hear the birds and other sounds of spring over the noise of you and/or your neighbour’s noisy lawn equipment (and here on the west coast of Canada, people have already started mowing their lawns).
