Types of Citrus Trees

Thursday December 25, 2008

Before you do your shopping in the produce section next time at the supermarket, check out this photo gallery from Vanessa Richins, About's Guide to Trees and Shrubs, showing some of the different types of citrus trees. Because Vanessa accompanies her pictures with background information about each type of citrus (and some citrus recipes), you might experience some "ah-hah" moments.

For instance, Vanessa introduces two different types of lime. Persian lime "is the kind of lime you will usually see in the grocery store." Key lime, by contrast, "is sweeter than the larger Persian lime." That helps explain why key lime pie (a link is provided for the recipe) is so sweet!
