Black Flowers

Tuesday February 3, 2009
Are you interested in growing plants with black flowers (or as close to a true black as possible) or dark foliage? Some nice contrasts can be created by juxtaposing these so-called "black" flowers with brightly colored specimens: imagine, for instance, a spring planting bed featuring tulip plants with red, yellow and black flowers! View my pictures of black flowers to learn about some examples.

Thanks so much for this.A couple of months ago i asked for suggestions on dark flowers, but didn’t get much feed back.
I know some growers are investing alot of money into coming up with a true black flower.
Someone told me there is a rose in honor of Dr.King, called the Martin Luther King rose, but i can’t seem to find it.

Hi Scotty,

I first became interested in black flowers while looking into Karen Platt’s work on black plants.
