Eco-Friendly Weedeater Comparison: Lehr vs. Grass Hog

Tuesday June 2, 2009

The Lehr Eco Trimmer is an innovative, eco-friendly weedeater that substitutes a 16.4-oz. propane canister for gas as a fuel source. This weedeater affords the same power and portability as do gas weedeaters while offering an eco-friendly alternative at a comparable price. I recommend it for pros and for homeowners with challenging trimming needs. But before you buy one, consult my review of this eco-friendly weedeater, where those not mechanically inclined will find the solution to a problem, potentially saving you time and frustration.

For folks with average trimming needs, battery-powered weedeaters like the cordless Grass Hog are a better eco-friendly option. They're less powerful, so it's more difficult to trim tough weeds and tall grass with them. And they don't hold a charge for long, which is inconvenient if you have to roam far and wide across a big yard to complete your trimming chores. But if you're trimming needs are average, and you want to go cordless and eco-friendly, battery power is the answer.

A few reasons to go with the cordless Grass Hog:

  1. The Grass Hog weighs only 6.5 lbs., compared to 16 lbs. for the Lehr (when fueled).
  2. It's easier to charge a battery than to make a trip to the store to buy more propane.
  3. Automatic start-up: no starter cord to pull.

Another eco-friendly approach to trimming is to plan your landscape in such a way as to minimize (or even virtually eliminate) your trimming needs. For example:

  • Use mulch in areas where, otherwise, you would need to use a weedeater.
  • Border your lawn with a mowing strip.

Get sheep they make my farm’s lawn look like a golf course, and goats eat just about, anything and everything, and by the time they get done with all your stuff, you’ll be on the beach, long time retired and not caring anymore.
