'Merlot' Virginia sweetspire is like a fine wine: it gets better with age. How so? Well, these shrubs are nice, if unspectacular, in spring, when they put out racemes of white flowers. But you have to wait a few months before you can see them in their full glory. As the cultivar name suggests, 'Merlot' Virginia sweetspire shrubs bear autumn leaves with a rich burgundy color. They're worth the wait!
