It's easy to take a wildflower that you've seen all your life for granted. For folks in North America, goldenrod may fall into this category. But North American goldenrod is much admired for its fluffy golden plumes in other parts of the world, where it has landed, unfortunately, on invasive plants lists....
Even if you're growing goldenrod where it is a native wildflower, take some precautions to ensure it doesn't spread out of control. I discuss such precautions in this article. The bigger challenge lies in convincing some of you to take an objective look at a wildflower you've seen growing along roadsides all your life. Not only does goldenrod bear a pretty bloom, but it does so at a convenient time of year for gardeners: late summer and into fall, when blooms on many of our perennials are but a distant memory.
