Patriotic Landscaping for July 4th

picture of red geraniumWhat choices in annual flowers do Americans have to install patriotic landscaping for July 4th? Well, some go the all-petunia route. The red and white petunias are especially effective, although the Burpee company does put out a "Sky Blue" petunia. The colors, red and white are also covered by geraniums (picture). Choices for blue annuals are usually the least satisfying. Here's a popular mix for patriotic landscaping:

I have a question re lilacs. I have a bush that has the lilac fragrance but looks very different from the other lilacs I have. It had just one blossom and the bush is about 6 feet in diameter. It is very round with greenery all the way to the ground. The stems break away easily and are not woody like a lilac. Any ideas on its name?

Judy,

For identification purposes, a picture is, of course, very helpful. You can post pictures in the Landscaping Forum.
