Have you pledged to turn over a new leaf this year when it comes to organizing your outdoor storage shed? Let's face it, many of us aren't exactly models of efficiency when it comes to how we maintain our storage areas. My own is a mess, I'm ashamed to admit, with tools, grass-seed bags, cement bags, etc. all jumbled up together, as if a hurricane rather than a human being had been responsible for the organization (if you can call it that).
And yes, I know what you apologists for messy storage areas will say, you champions of saving everything by tossing it, willy-nilly, into a garage, shed, basement or attic. You'll wax poetic about how "you never know when you might need" such-and-such. That's all fine and dandy. But here's the point: When you really need something, don't you want to be able to find it quickly?
One mess that stares most all of us gardeners in the face is a mountain of plastic pots: you know, all those containers that you've brought your plants home in from the nursery over the years. One thought gardeners commonly have is, "I wish I could recycle all my left-over plastic pots into something useful." I certainly don't want to be banging into them with the snow shovel all winter!
Well, here's an idea for recycling plastic pots: Make plant labels out of them! I'm talking about plant labels that -- unlike those flimsy little things that come with your plants -- are easy to read. In my tutorial I show you how easy it is to make such plant labels, using pictures along the way to illustrate the process.
