I know that we only just recently passed the Thanksgiving holiday on the calendar here in the U.S., and that Christmas still looms on the horizon. So chide me if you will, but the fact is that I'm already looking forward to spring. And when I picture spring, the images in my mind include certain plants.

- Glory-of-the-snow
- Crocus
- Reticulated iris
- Siberian squill
- Grape hyacinths
- White narcissus
- Hyacinths
- Yellow daffodils
- Tulips
- Fritillaria imperialis
- Allium schubertii
Not that bulb plants have a monopoly on springtime splendor. Without even getting into flowering trees and flowering shrubs, here are some more relatively short plants that enter my mind when I'm daydreaming to beat the winter blues:
Do you have similar daydreams this time of year? If so, next time you hear someone say "Think snow!" proclaim "Think spring!"
