Although fall is a better time for buying trees and planting them,
some of you will probably be buying trees when you shop for plants this spring. Steve Nix gives an example of a dealer to avoid: "the nursery looks 'weedy' both on the lot and inside the pots." Good stuff — The only thing I would add is to inspect the root ball (if B&B) or container dirt (if potted)… stick your finger in an inch or two. If it is dry, it probably was not well taken care of. If it is moist, you should be in good shape.
