Snow-in-Summer Plants

Saturday December 31, 2005
I'll do anything to keep from thinking of snow in winter -- even if it means thinking of "snow in summer." Huh? you ask. Has the cold addled my brain? No, I'm talking about snow-in-summer plants. Cerastium tomentosum plants derive their common name from their blooming habit. They bloom profusely in the early summer, and the flowers are a pristine white. But snow-in-summer plants' name doesn't tell the whole story. Snow-in-summer plants are as admired for their delicate, wooly, silvery foliage as for their flowers.
