Definition: Soils with a pH level that is higher than 7 are said to be "alkaline." Such soils are suitable for growing plants that thrive in a "sweet" (alkaline) soil, as opposed to a "sour" or acid soil. If soil pH needs to be raised (i.e., the ground isn't alkaline enough), apply lime.
Common Misspellings: alcaline
Examples:
"Alkaline" refers to soil pH and shouldn't be confused with Al Kaline, who was the great right fielder for the Detroit Tigers during the '50s, '60s and '70s!
