Lawn Thatch

Definition: Lawn thatch is the layer of dead turfgrass tissue between the green vegetation and the soil surface that must be removed (a process known as "dethatching") to maintain lawn health. It consists of stems, leaves, stolons, rhizomes and roots.
Examples:
They thought about leaf-blowing all those fall leaves off their lawn, but they decided on raking, instead, as a way of killing two birds with one stone: leaf-cleanup and the removal of lawn thatch.
