"Alkaline or Alkalinity"

By David Beaulieu, About.com

Definition: Alkalinity is the characteristic of soils with a pH level that is greater than 7, which is suitable for plants that thrive in a "sweet" (alkaline) soil, as opposed to a "sour" or acid soil. If soil pH needs to be raised (i.e., the soil isn't alkaline enough), apply lime.

Common Misspellings: alcalinity, alcalinitie, alculinity, alculinitie, alkalinitie, alkulinity, alkulinitie

Examples: "Alkaline" refers to soil pH and shouldn't be confused with Al Kaline, who was the great right fielder for the Detroit Tigers during the '50s, '60s and '70s!
