Sometimes, it's nice to know what some of your "extreme" options are. For instance, when we looked at an example of a columnar form in an earlier photo, we saw the extreme form of the lombardy poplar.
Well, in most any planting in which they are used in the temperate zone (where they are treated as annuals, or else dug up and stored away for the winter), elephant ears will provide the coarsest texture. To create a strong textural contrast, integrate elephant ears and ferns (an extreme at the opposite end of the textural spectrum) in the same shade garden.
