A context must be provided to answer this tree-care question properly. We must first know:
- The type of magnolia tree in question
- The time of year
Some magnolia trees are deciduous, such as saucer magnolia trees, and some are evergreen. If your magnolia tree is a deciduous type, its leaves are supposed to turn brown and fall in autumn.
If brown leaves appear in spring, it could be due to frost damage. If they appear in summer, inadequate watering may be the cause of brown leaves, but high winds could also be the culprit (they dry out the foliage).
Do the brown leaves fall off almost immediately after the color change? That could mean an iron deficiency. I would recommend you have a soil test done (your county extension should be able to handle this).
