Angel's Trumpet

The Best Plant in My Spring Yard

I love peonies, especially bright fuchsia ones. The display of color from this extravagant plant is a feast for the eyes. I love the shape of the peony flowers too.

The Best Plant in My Summer Yard

I am a big fan of Brugmansia, this almost tree like plant that grows long flowers shaped like trumpets. They come in pale pink, yellows and white. The most amazing feature of the angel's trumpet (that is what the name of it is too) is that the flowers open up at night and are amazingly fragrant.

The Best Plant in My Fall Yard

Autumn Joy sedum is also a magnificent perennial. Plant it in the spring while it is still very small and pale in color. By the time you reach fall, it takes on a bright salmon peach color that brightens up the garden. My gardener suggested replacing my vincas with it. I get lots of compliments!

The Best Plant in My Winter Yard

In the winter I love to gaze at my Leyland cypresses through my numerous windows, particularly when they are covered with snow and it is still snowing. I always think it is so beautiful to watch.

My Plants: How They Measure Up, Season by Season

Yes I am very happy with my choice of plants, but I am always open to suggestions. What is wonderful too in the garden is the mixed display of colors.

How My Plantings Have Evolved

I've always liked flowery bushes. I like colors. I also love plants with big leaves for shade gardens, like callas, hostas, root beer plants. I am also open to try a "moon garden". They look so lovely at dusk

What I'd Do Differently

  • I need to add more trees. Here in our zone, maple trees have flamboyant colors in the fall. Cherry trees and dogwoods are other options that I am considering.
